The Istanbul Convention (IC) is the strongest and most comprehensive legal framework that exists to tackle violence against women and girls.

What is the IC?

The Istanbul Convention (IC) life-saving piece of legislation for the protection of women and girls against all forms of violence. It sets out minimum standards for how the Government should prevent violence, protect women and girls experiencing it, and prosecute those responsible.

Why do we need the IC?

Violence against women and girls is widespread in the UK and takes many forms. At the moment, there is no legislation to hold the Government to account for failing to take necessary action to address this. This is what the Istanbul Convention would provide.

We've successfully campaigned to get this back on the Government's agenda and are awaiting a timetable for ratification. It is important for us to keep the pressure up to make sure ratification happens and you can help us do that.
