Istanbul Convention Parliamentary Lobby

On 13th July 2016 we will be hosting a Parliamentary lobby on the Istanbul Convention for MPs and peers from 12.30 - 2pm in Committee Room 7.

The event has cross-party support, co-hosted by MPs Gavin Newlands, Maria Miller, Jess Phillips, and Tom Brake. It is organised by the IC Change campaign in partnership with Women’s Aid, Scottish Women’s Aid, the End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW), Southall Black Sisters, FORWARD, and White Ribbon.

The Istanbul Convention Parliamentary lobby is a drop in event for MPs and peers to find out more about the Istanbul Convention and have a photo taken of them showing their support. We have also arranged for some survivors of gender-based violence, along with prominent advocates in this area to attend so that you can talk to them about why they want the Istanbul Convention to be ratified by the UK Government.

If you are an MP or peer, we would love you to join us! You can download the IC Change Lobby Invitation with the key information for the day. A Word Version of IC Lobby Invitation is also available for you to download.

If you think your MP should attend this event then please share the invitation with them. You can write to them via Write to Them or Tweet them this link. Find out if your MP on Twitter via Tweet Your MP.

Overview of the event

The drop in starts at 12.30pm.

At 1pm we will hear about the Convention and why it is so important for the UK Government to ratify it without further delay from Hilary Fisher (Director of Policy, Voice, and Membership at Women’s Aid and member of the Committee that drafted the Istanbul Convention) and Dr Marsha Scott (CEO of Scottish Women’s Aid and co-chair of European Observatory on Violence Against Women).

Following this, at around 1.10pm there will be a main group photo opportunity for MPs and peers who wish to also participate in a cross-party group photo.

We will be providing a local press release and copy of photographs for all MPs who attend.

If you are able to attend, please RSVP to info@icchange.co.uk by 29 June 2016.
